OFBJP-USA condemns the riots and atrocities against minority Hindus in West Bengal Districts
OFBJP-USAÂ vehemently condemns the serious and atrocious communal disturbances earlier this week in the Deganga Block and adjoining areas of Basirhat and Barasat in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The victims are terrified of the wanton violence selectively unleashed on members of the Hindu community by anti-social elements acting under the direction of the Trinamool Congress Party MP from Basirhat, Mr. Haji Nurul Islam. The goons, under the direction of this rouge MP, vandalized more than 250 shops and houses and humiliated Hindus with all sorts of indecent and inhuman methods violating all norms of human rights.
The disturbances began with a deliberate attempt to disrupt the erection of a Durga Puja pandal at Chattal village, although the site has been used for performing a community puja for the last 40 years and a permanent temple also stands there. The site adjoins a Muslim graveyard and recently attempts have been made to stop the Durga Puja at its traditional site on the ground that ownership of the land is disputed. The local Hindu community is seriously aggrieved and agitated over this action especially because the police have not intervened. The Kali temple at Kartickpur has been severely vandalized by the miscreants.
OFBJP demands immediate arrest of the TMC MP Haji Nurul Islam who, from all accounts, incited the mob into communal frenzy and has been named in the FIR lodged by local people. The OFBJP also demands prompt compensation for people whose houses and shops have been looted and burnt, in many cases beyond recognition. Many people, particularly young women, had been forced to flee the locality fearing molestation and worse. OFBJP demands that conditions for their return to their homes must be created forthwith.
OFBJP also demands arrest of local ruffians Maqbur Rehman, Mintu Sahji and TC leader Ratna Chowdhury who was pressuring the police not to take any action against the erring mob which selectively looted and ransacked shops of minority Hindu community.
Dr. Adapa Prasad, OFBJP President said that it is sad and painful to learn that the Hindu victims were forced to migrate from Bangladesh some years ago to escape Islamic religious persecution in that country. They said they were facing the grim prospect of becoming refugees once again because of communal hatred being preached by certain communal political leaders. Shri Jayesh Patel, OFBJP Presdient-Elect said that it is astonishing to learn that none of the other political parties had made any effort to provide succor to the thousands of victims and the administration had adopted a hands-off policy for the sake of so called Muslim minority votes.
Â
OFBJP demands immediate intervention by the Government of West Bengal to arrest the culprits, provide compensation to the victims, restore the status quo with regard to local disputes and usher in a sense of security in the troubled area.
Â
OFBJP want to bring it to the light the results of non-stop illegal migration from Bangladesh with the connivance of local administration. All these districts once rampant with illegal immigrants from across the border got legitimized and now the same folks are throwing out the legal inhabitants of these areas by means of riots and rape. This is a dangerous precedent set against all norms of national security, said Shri Chandrakant Patel, OFBJP Organizing Secretary. OFBJP is surprised and concerned that there has been negligible coverage of such a national shame in the mainstream media.
