Sardar Patel Statue proposed by Modi – World’s biggest statue to be built in Gujarat

published on October 6, 2010

Ahmedabad: Entering his tenth year in office, Chief Minister Narendra Modi announced a unique memorial to Sardar Patel, who had unified the country after Independence. The Chief Minister said a 182-metre metal statue of Sardar Patel would come up on an island in the Narmada river — about 3 km down the multi-purpose dam, which is nearing completion. It would be the world’s tallest statue, in fact twice as high as the US’ Statue of Liberty. It would be appropriately named Statue of Unity, Modi said, adding that it was Sardar Patel who had unified all the princely States into the Indian Union.
