BJP workers from Karnataka, who were heading towards Jammu last night for the January 26 Tiranga march, were in for a big surprise. Karnataka Express going from Bangalore to Delhi with 18 bogies filled with K’taka BJP youth wing workers, was stopped on Sunday (January 23) at Ahmednagar’s Sarola station.

The train was halted at 1.30 am in Ahmednagar and then was redirected back to Bangalore. The police, CRPF jawans and the rail police created a black out and removed the front engine, placing it at the back. They also attached 2 more bogies, filled with over 1500 police jawans at 1.30 am.

All this happened while the BJP workers were asleep. It took a while for the BJP workers to realise they were being diverted back, prompting them to stop the train at Nagansur, which is on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border.

The central government and Jammu and Kashmir government have declared that no workers from any other state will be allowed to attend the 26th Jan Tiranga Yatra.

‘Will fight dictatorship designs of government’

Reacting to the incident, BJP Spokesperson Prakash Javadekar blamed the Congress government and said that the party will fight the dictatorship designs by the government.

“Whatever Congress is doing is undemocratic and unaccountable. Our workers have valid tickets and hence they cannot return the train to Bangalore. This is as if we are in a dictatorship. No matter what the Congress does our workers will go to Kashmir and hoist the national flag there,” said the BJP spokesperson.

BJP leader Anurag Thakur too reacted to diversion of train carrying BJP workers. He said, “The government is nervous and bowing before the Separatists. The march so far has been peaceful, why then is the government resorting to such measures? Govt is working against the nationalists. We are determined to go to Lal Chowk, no matter what.”

CM flays move to stop K’Taka Express

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today slammed the move by security forces to stop the Karnataka Express in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district. “Nobody tolerates such things,” he said, adding, he would request the party central leaders to take up the matter with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and “protest this type of attitude”.

Yeddyurappa said his government would write to President Pratibha Patil and the Prime Minister about this incident. “Such things should not repeated in future,” he told reporters.
