Shri. Shanta Kumar , National Vice President of BJP and Member Parliament (RS) has said that Indian Government was not serious about recovery of black money stashed away in Swiss Banks. He said that millions of people whose hard earned money had been looted by the corrupt politicians, dishonest business-men and bureaucrats had a right to know why this unnecessary delay was being caused by the UPA Government to recover this amount back.

In a Press release issued here to today , Shri Shanta Kumar said that the statement of Swiss Finance secretary about the stand of Swiss government on the black money indicates the Indian Government was deliberately delaying the issue on the pretext of Double Tax Avoidance Agreement ( DTAA ). He said DATT was signed in the month of August last year and so far had not been ratified by the Indian Government to  the reason best known to them. This has been disclosed by Swiss Finance Secretary in Deaos.

Shri Shanta Kumar said government was time and again asked to ratify the DTAA and UN Convention Against Corruption which is a internationally recognized legal tool to share the information about tax-evaders and black money holders.

Shri. Shanta Kumar said that UN Conventions Against Corruptions is the only International legal instrument to recover the money back from the Tax-heaven countries. This treaty has been signed by 148 countries and has been ratified by 126 countries. After ratification some countries have initiated the proceedings. Switzerland had also signed and ratified this Treaty. The moment India ratifies this treaty it would be binding on Swiss Govt to share the information according to Provision of the Convention.

Shri Shanta Kumar raised this matter last year in Rajya Sabha and asked the Prime Minister why Govt is not ratifying the Convention. Shri. Shanta Kumar participated in the discussion on this issues at the UN General Assembly as Member of Parliamentary Delegation on 20th October 2010. During the discussions, the representative of Swiss Mr. Mithai Bachman declared categorically that his country wants to return back the amount . After returning back to India Shri. Shanta Kumar again wrote a letter to the Prime Minister and sent an official copy of  Swiss representative’s statement to PM and urged to ratify the treaty. Shri. Shanta Kumar, till date, received NO response from the Prime Minister.

Shri Shanta Kumar said that it is quite evident now that the present  Govt shall not disclose the names because if the  names   were disclosed the Govt would not remain in the office for  a day.  It seems that some of the politicians  from the ruling party are involved in this largest loot and it is high time for the nation to rise above all and prevent this  loot of the history which is the main reason of poverty and hunger in our country
