Ominous Portents for Kerala Hindus

The new year is not bringing any good news for the dwindling Hindu population of Kerala. A lesser number of people need not necessarily mean weakening of our faith. But when all physical and psychological parameters are developing against us, it is time to worry. Let me just list down a few developments and trends that will highlight the impending disaster:-
 
1.    Increasing number of Hindu family suicides
2.    Victory for Islamic Banking in Kerala High Court
3.    Establishment of Aligarh Muslim University in Malappuram district
4.    Chopping off Prof. Joseph’s hand and subsequent thumping electoral victory of Prof. Anas
5.    Coming elections and subsequent rule by Christian Congress and Muslim League
6.    Flourishing religious conversion and marriage of daughters’ of almost all prominent Hindus to  Christians
7.    Popularity and acceptability of leaders like Maadani
8.    Growing popularity and circulation for ‘Maududi Madhyamam’ and ‘Malankara Manorama’
9.    Increased flow of Islamic FDI into Kerala ( Dubai Port , TECOM etc)
10.  Disinterest of NSS and SNDP in Hindu issues
11.  Growing influence of Gulf money and Gulf business leaders in Kerala politics
12.  Growing dependency of Kerala Hindus on Gulf money for a living
13.  Increasing number of business tycoons among Christians and Muslims in Kerala
14.  Migration of middle-class Hindu families to neighbouring states, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi
15.  Take-over of Padmanabha Swami Kshetram by Govt. of Kerala
16.  Growing of a ‘secular’ state on Hindu rituals like Ponkala, Makaravilakku etc.
17.  Dwindling real-estate holdings with the Hindu middle-class
18.  Further isolation of Dalits and Adivasis from Hindu community, making them more vulnerable
19.  Pravaasi votes and its effect on local bodies of Malabar
20.  Absence of atleast a few Hindu leaders of high stature with Hindu interests who are not afraid of saying so
 
This list is not exhaustive, but more than enough for all concerned to start thinking about it seriously
