Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy, a petitioner in the 2G spectrum case, Wednesday sought a CBI inquiry into the death of Sadiq Batcha, a closebusiness associate of former communications minister A. Raja.

“The CBI should look into his (Batcha’s) death. After all, he was under their scanner,” Swamy told reporters here soon after reports that Batcha was found hanging in his residence in Chennai Wednesday noon.

Swamy said the cause of death can be verified only after an autopsy.

“Whoever (is involved in the 2G spectrum case) is not at the top level is today amenable or vulnerable to these situations,” the Janata Party leader said.

“And afterall if you are continuously depressed, you can commit suicide or you could be persuaded to commit suicide,” he added.

According to Swamy, Batcha was not a “weak-hearted “person, but a “hard-boiled businessman who used to deal with hawala agents and other clients”.

Batcha, a Chennai-based real estate dealer whose firm saw a phenomenal rise in the recent years, was questioned by the CBI in December last in the multi-billion rupee 2G spectrum scam.

Raja’s wife was a board member at Batcha’s company Green House Promoters. Batcha was being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the money trail of the 2G spectrum scandal.
