Congress CM praises Narendra Modi
Mumbai : Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has come in for praise from unexpected quarters. The comments of Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, who praised Modi for agricultural development in Gujarat, could embarrass the Congress as Modi is seen as one of the principal political opponents.
Addressing a function at an agricultural university in Ahmednagar on Sunday, Chavan said Gujarat is far ahead of Maharashtra. He said while agricultural growth in Gujarat stood at 11 per cent, it’s only 4.5 per cent in Maharashtra.
Chavan said Gujarat maintained a more than 10 per cent growth through the last decade.
The Maharashtra CM praised Gujarat’s innovative methods in building small irrigation systems for agriculture. Chavan wondered whether Maharashtra could match up with its prosperous neighbour.
