A group of people affiliated to the RSS is preparing to file a court case against Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for his allegations that the RSS has been making bomb factories.
On Sunday, Singh had accused the RSS of making bombs and also alleged that role of the right wing organisation in the recent serial blasts in Mumbai cannot be ruled out. Singh’s statements against the RSS had apparently resulted in a clash between Congress and BJP activists in Ujjain.
Upset with his allegations, a group of RSS swayamsevaks, led by a senior RSS member Bhikuji alias Dada Idate (65), have come together to file a case of defamation and spreading rumours causing tensions in society.
Idate is based in Dapoli in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. Associated with the RSS for about 50 years, Idate was a karyavah for Maharashtra for 16 years, Bauddhik Pramukh of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa for 11 years and is currently the national convenor of Samajik Samrasta Manch.
He said: “Singh’s allegation that the RSS is making bomb factories is baseless. Singh has made such statements several times in the past. It seems he has a hobby of making statements against the RSS and Hindus. Being a RSS swayamsevak, I would be filing a court case against Singh in a couple of days at Dapoli court…We believe Singh makes statements as per the instructions of Congress high command. Our discussion is on with legal experts to see if we can make Congress president a party in the case.â€
On Monday, BJP lashed out at Singh and the Congress, claiming that the former Madhya Pardesh chief minister was, in effect, the “voice†of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Rahul Gandhi. The party charged Singh with “communalising†the fight against terror for “petty political gainsâ€.
The BJP said Singh’s comments against the RSS was a desperate attempt to change the political discourse at a time when the UPA was unable to shed the perception that it was soft on terror. “He wants to change the agenda… whenever the issue of terror or corruption comes up, Singh becomes very active,†party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
Prasad said it was reported that the Congress president had last month told the party working committee that only spokespersons would spell out the party’s stance. “But despite that Singh continues to speak… and Sonia and Rahul are silent while the Congress defends him… There is a legitimate suspicion to infer that Singh is speaking the language of Sonia and Rahul,†he said.
