Hundreds of people from across Jammu & Kashmir and beyond have removed their names from the Facebook ‘friends’ list noted Kashmiri lobbyists Sayyed Ghulam Nabi Fai within 48 hours of his arrest. On Thursday afternoon , the number of Fai Facebook friends had come down to 280 from 1500 three days ago.

Those who chose to ‘unfriend’ Fai include some Srinagar and New Delhi based academics, journalists , members of “think tanks” and social and political activists . Ironically , also several persons including some journalists who enjoyed his hospitality during their visits to the US or travelled there over the past two decades were quick in deleting their names from his ‘friend’ list.  The panic buttons were pushed also by reports emanating from Delhi that the Indian security agencies may soon question political and human rights activists.prominent separatist leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and members of the media fraternity for whom he had played host or were in constant touch with him.

Meanwhile, others who are on the regular pay roll of the ISI like Mirwaiz Ummar Farooq or Sayyed Ali Shah Geelani etc are thinking of  formally starting a campaign and will ask people to hold prayers against his arrest in the US.
