One more Temple handed over to Hindu organisations in Karnataka

Bangalore: In yet another significant move on handing over Government controlled temples to Hindu organisations, Karnataka Government handed over Prasanna Sri Subramanya temple at Ramanathapura to Sri Samputa Narasimha Math.

The Government’s decision to denotify the temple was based on a request from the Sri Samputa Narasimha Math .The temple was built by Math pontiff Vibhudesha Tirtha, in the 17th century .The temple was taken over by earlier by Government in 1997 by Deve Gowda Ministry.

Earlier also BJP Government in Karnataka had handed over famous Udupi Sri Krishna temple to Ashta Mutts and Sri Gokarna Mahabaleswara Temple in Uttara Kannada district to the Sri Ramachandrapura Math .Congress and Janata Dal in Karnataka are opposing these hand over.

Making a mockery of Constitutional rights gauranteed , Thousands of temples especially in South India are now under the control of the state while Christians and Muslims in these states enjoying full liberty on how they manage the temples.

Article 26 Constitution of India. Freedom to manage religious affairs.-

Subject to public order, morality and health, every religious denomination or any section thereof shall have the right-

(a) to establish and maintain institutions for religious and charitable purposes;

(b) to manage its own affairs in matters of religion;

(c) to own and acquire movable and immovable property; and

(d) to administer such property in accordance with law.

Tirupathi Declaration

Sri Swami Dayananda Saraswati, a group of all Mathadhipatis Headed by H. H. Vishveshwara Thirtha Shripadaru Pejawar Math and other sadhus, in a meeting at Tirupathi on July 15, 2006, issued the following declaration. “We Hindus assembled here declare that we do not support directly or indirectly any group, institution, religion, media or political force which preaches, practices or works against Hindu Dharma in this country. We appeal to all Hindus in this country and elsewhere to subscribe to and support this declaration, the Tirupathi Declaration. We want all the Hindu Religious endowments to be managed by Hindu Bodies, and not by the Government. We want the Secular Government to release all religious endowments from its hold.”

Ironically in Kerala even now more and more temples face Government encroachment. The Government specifically targets well administered temples managed by Hindu organisations under Kshetra Samrakshana Samithi in Kerala.
