Goa Christians Accept BJP
The assembly election verdict of Goa, which gave an overwhelming majority to the BJP, proves Christians see BJP as a genuine secular party. They realize the bigger threat to Indian society today is from hardline terrorist organizations, and it is only this party that is serious on fighting it. Other political parties are against antagonizing groups that are soft on terrorist organizations in fear of losing votes.
No matter, the media and our ‘so-called secular intellectuals’ sustained campaign against BJP that it is anti-Christian and communal has been rejected by the 30% Christians of Goa this time. Without the whole-hearted support of Christians, BJP could not have won so many seats.
So what has suddenly made Christians do a U turn, who were so long bitter with BJP and its sister organizations?
Christians too are victims of violence and terrorist attacks, and therefore, have given their verdict in favour of a party that is serious on fighting the menace without any vote considerations. For, fighting terrorism is crucial for all – tomorrow it may be your or my family, which has to suffer grievous injuries or even meet death.
In fact, the first signs of rapprochement were visible about 3 years back when the Church in Kerala had joined hands with VHP to combat the phenomena of Love Jehad, in which young girls were lured away feigning love.
So for the Goa Christians, fighting terrorism by joining hands with a party that was so long perceived as untouchable, sends the signal to the BJP to reciprocate by shedding its anti-Christian image and work with this progressive community. Christianity’s contribution to education and healthcare is undeniable. Undoubtedly, had there been no Christianity in India, the country would have been at least 50 years behind in education.
Now, it’s surely time for the BJP to greet Christians across India with a warm – Namaskar!
