Sonia has promised Italians’ safe return: Swamy
Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday said that Sonia Gandhi had assured the Italian authorities that a situation could be created for the safe return of their two Marines, arrested in Kerala for shooting to death two fishermen, to Italy after March 17. He said that Sonia had conveyed this assurance to the Italians through their ambassador in India.
Talking to newsmen in Kochi, Swamy said that he had got enough evidences on Sonia Gandhi’s assurance to the Italians on the safe return of the two Marines, Latore Massimiliano and Salvatore Girone, sent to a Thiruvananthapuram jail on Monday by a court which remanded them in judicial custody for 14 days.
Swamy said that the Italians’ position was equivalent to open humiliation of Indian laws. He said he was speaking on the basis of the information he had received from reliable circles. He had raised similar allegations against Sonia Gandhi in an interview given to a Malayalam television channel earlier.
Immediately after the arrest of the two Marines in Kochi, the Italian authorities had said that the Kerala Government was taking a tough stand on the issue due to political compulsions associated with the Assembly by-poll in Piravam constituency on March 17.
