HYDERABAD: Police lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the unruly mob after they pelted stones at the police and shops between Mecca masjid and Salibanda in the old city while taking out a rally. Police said tension prevailed in some areas at the Mecca masjid and Charminar after Friday prayers by Muslims. As soon as the prayers had ended, the Muslim youth has taken out a rally to Chairminar in support of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) Mla Akbaruddin Owaisi, who was arrested and remanded in judicial custody for his ‘hate speech’. As the rally reached near mecca masjid the mob rained stones on the police and shops. In self-defence, the riot gear police personnel who were present in huge numbers dispersed them by using tear gas shells. An electronic media photographer covering the rally was reportedly injured in the stone throwing. Elaborate police bandobust was made at Charminar and Mecca Masjid in view of the Friday prayers, police added.
