Gang Rape Case – Time catch up with Congress leader and Deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha

After 17 years , of legal fight Supreme Court decided to set aside Kerala High Court’s order acquitting 35 accused in the Suryanelli gangrape case of 1996 in which a 16-year-old girl was gang raped for over 40 days. The girl was threatened, abducted and brutally raped for 45 days by 42 men.

Congress leader and Deputy Chairman of Rajyasabha P J Kurian was one of the accused in this case. This highly influential Congress leader’s name was cleared by pressures from higher ups and Sibi Mathews who investigated the case then was said to be the man who paved way to clear the name of P J Kurian who then was a Central Minister.     

The victim has sent a letter to the counsel seeking P J Kurien, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, be included in the list of the accused. She also alleged that the police and the governance is trying to sabotage the case. The victim has been reiterating this demand since the incident, in which the victim, a 16-year old then, was gang raped by several men for over 40 days, came to light.
