RAJNANDGAON (Chhattisgarh): Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi took a dig at the law and order situation in national capital asking the people at a public meeting here whether they would send their young daughters to Delhi.

“Will anyone of you send any of your young girls in your family to Delhi?”, he said; took a pause and quipped again, “Dr Manmohan Singh is sitting there.”

He was addressing a gathering here on the culmination of second phase of Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh’s on-going Vikas Yatra.

“It’s an obnoxious, cheap and double-meaning remark,” reacted Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee president Nandkumar Patel. “Modi is the only person in BJP who is known for making such remarks, which lowers his own dignity,” he added.

Without naming Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Modi referred his visit to Kerala on Saturday saying: “A Congress leader claimed today that Kerala’s literacy and education scenario was the contribution of the successive Congress governments … Why did other states lag behind in education when the Congress ruled the country more than 50 years?” he asked.

Modi claimed that it was the Shivgiri Mutt and Sree Narayana Guru who have pioneered education movement in Kerala, the southern coastal state.
