New Delhi July 07: RSS Sah-sarakaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale, BJP Veteran LK Advani jointly released book on Jammu Kashmir in a programme held in NewDelhi on Saturday evening.

The Congress too had opposed Article 370 in the constituent assembly: L K Advani

New Delhi, 07 July: L K Advani said that even the Congress had vehemently opposed the Article 370 in the constituent assembly. He said this while speaking at an event organized to launch the book “Jammu-Kashmir’s untold stories” at the National Museum.

L K Advani mentioned that several leaders of the Congress had then expressed the same reservations against Article 370 as those of the BJP today. He said that Late Jawaharlal Nehru after finalizing the Article 370 with Sheikh Abdullah, had approached the then leader of the Congress, Gopalswamy Ayyangar, and had requested him to propose the Article in the Constituent Assembly as he was about to travel abroad. Advani said that when the proposal was made, many leaders of the Congress had vehemently opposed it and had even termed it as a joke. The Congress leaders had said that the same provisions that were made for the other 564 princely states should also be made for Jammu-Kashmir and not any separate or special provision for it, Advani told the audience. They sought the support of Late Sardar Vallabhai Patel and despite that were not able to garner enough support so as to defeat the proposal.

Advani said that even for the accession of Hyderabad, Nehru had infact wanted to go to the UN. When the Nizam of Hyderabad has opposed accession to India, Sardar Patel had threatened military action and this had angered Nehru and he had told Patel in a meeting that the issue has to be taken to the UN. Sardar Patel did not heed to Nehru and made preparations for military action. But after this, Patel stopped attending the cabinet meetings thereafter, Advani said.

The author of the book, Dr.Agnihotri while speaking on the topic, said that then prominent political party of Jammu-Kashmir, Praja Parishad, had organized a historical agitation over several issues in the 1950’s. During this agitation several thousands of ‘satyagrahis’ were imprisoned and 15 of them fell to the bullets of the police and attained martyrdom. Bharatiya Jansangh’s president Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was arrested while he was supporting the agitation. He died in mysterious circumstances in a jail in Srinagar and thus became independent India’s first martyr, the author said.

Sah Sarkaryavaha of the RSS, Shri. Dattatreya Hosabale spoke on the occasion and said that we need to see Jammu-Kashmir away from Nehru’s perspective. Many people raised lot of hue and cry over Advani ji’s blog on Article 370 but the selfsame individuals are silent on reservations not being provided to the SC/ST’s in Jammu-Kashmir and several welfare measures not being implemented in the state, he said. He also said that the people of the country need to know the truth of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s mysterious death. There needs to be a change in the perspective of viewing Jammu-Kashmir and a country-wide debate has to happen on why the conditions there have turned to the worse, Hosabale said.

On this occasion, the Chairman of Jammu-Kashmir Study Center, Jawahar Lal Kaul thanked the author Dr.Kuldip Chand Agnihotri for bringing out the true facts of the ‘Praja Parishad’ agitation and about Jammu-Kashmir in the form of this book. He also said that Jammu-Kashmir Study Center will continue to support further research on various topics regarding Jammu-Kashmir. The present Organization Chief of Praja Parishad, Bhagwat Swarup was felicitated by L K Advani with flowers and was presented with a shawl. The event was administered by Prabhat Kumar. Several intellectuals and prominent leaders like Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Ram Lal, Lakshmi Narayan Bhaala, JP Nadda were present on the occasion.
