Modi I-Day speech beats PM’s, says online polll

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address in Bhuj seems to won the battle of the Independence Day speeches.

In an online poll on indiatoday.in, 92 per cent of the people who took the survey liked Modi’s speech. Just 8 per cent liked Manmohan Singh’s speech from the Red Fort.

Before Independence Day, Modi had challenged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that he would outdo the latter’s Independence Day speech.

Comparison between Modi and Manmohan on important issues:

Relations with Pakistan:
Manmohan: Relations with Pakistan can only improve when it checks anti-India activities on its soil.

Modi: The prime minister should have ensured armed forces’ morale was boosted by his I-Day speech.

Food security:
Manmohan: Food security law will benefit 75 per cent of rural population and half of urban population.

Modi: The Food Security bill would worsen the condition of the poor.

Education:
Manmohan: Many new institutions have been opened in the area of higher education. For example, 8 new IITs, 7 New IIMs, 16 new Central universities and 10 new NITs.

Modi: We are the only state to have graded colleges, schools and there are now 42 universities in the state.

It is clear from the above that Modi had tried to put himself at the forefront of India’s ongoing issues with Pakistan. He also criticised the food security bill for not being inclusive enough.

On Twitter also, Narendra Modi fared better than the Prime Minister.

V. Chitra tweeted, “On the Independence day, lots of curses to the PM who ruined us. May God give him the worst. Lots of blessings to Modi.”

Rajneesh Sherwal also attacked Manmohan Singh and tweeted: A man who does not even have his own words and rely on someone else written speech can’t make any difference.”

Murli Manohar Shukla also praised Modi’s speech and even compared him with Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.  He said: “In present scenario, no one can compete with @narendramodi , repeat NO ONE. Even he better than Indira and ABV.”
