Narendra Modi campaigns for Swami Vivekananda

A special screening of The Light: Swami Vivekananda, directed by Tutu Sinha, was held for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad recently. Also present at the screening were the CM’s cabinet members, producer J Misra and actor Deep Bhattacharya, who essays the revered monk.

Modi said, “On Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birth anniversary, the film is a great tribute by the producers. I must say that the director and the writer, in those few hours, have successfully encapsulated the life and work of the legendary monk. Deep fits into the character brilliantly.”

Announcing that his government would make the movie tax-free in the state, Modi said that it is a must-watch for all Indians, adding, “This film has a special message for the youth.”

Misra says, “Swami Vivekananda has been an inspiration for people all over the world. Isn’t it amazing that his teachings are relevant even after 150 years, ?”

The makers of the film have even planned an exclusive yatra — The Light Express — to screen the film at places where Swami Vivekananda delivered speeches during his travel across India. “Besides getting a larger audience, it will be an enlightening experience for people,” concludes Misra.

The Light: Swami Vivekananda, produced by TriColour Productions (P) Ltd, releases August 23.
