Case of child trafficking: Centre flays Kerala for non-cooperation.

The centre has flayed the state government of Kerala for lack of cooperation in the investigation procedures related to the case of child trafficking, where children from Jharkhand where brought to a Muslim orphanage in Kozhikkode.

The senior official appointed by Ministry of Women and Child Welfare has alleged that the state government has not offered any assistance in handing over relevant information. He has made it clear that the matter will be specified in the report that is to be submitted to the centre.

Earlier Union Minister for Women and Child Welfare Maneka Gandhi had come down heavily on the incident stating that the incident is nothing but child trafficking. Following this, Joint Secretary Sreenivasalu was appointed to look into the matter.

The state government of Kerala now faces flak from the High Court, with the judicial body stating that the details given by the state government lacks credibility. The Court sought to know from the Chief Secretary whom the government was shielding and under whose protection the children were.
“How was it that so many children were being brought in the train? Are they being brought in conformation to the relevant documents? All documents related to the incident must be submitted before court,” directed the Court.
