BJP Will Sweep Assembly Polls, Asserts Kummanam
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Setting the agenda for BJP in the forthcoming Assembly election, newly-elected BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan has made it clear that the saffron party is all set to lead a third force in Kerala by bringing together different stakeholders, including community leaders like Vellappally Natesan and T V Babu.
In his first media interaction after assuming office, a confident Kummanam asserted that the BJP aims to rule the state by winning more than 71 seats in the Assembly polls.
He said the Kerala politics is in a transition phase. Referring to the ongoing letter row in Congress, Kummanam said: “These are small explosions; it’s an evolving scenario; soon there will be major explosions in Kerala politics, which would entail new political equations.†BJP is not aiming to merely open its account, but to win more than 71 seats, he said.
Coming down heavily on so-called secularists, Kummanam Rajasekharan said religious discrimination has been practiced in the state in the name of secularism. Temple administration, he said, should be entrusted with devotees. He also demanded that the government should take measures to retain the temple land usurped over the years.
“Why do those batting for secularism want to rule the temples? Will they attempt to take control of the Christian and Muslim religious places of worship? In the name of secularism, they are engaging in religious discrimination,†Kummanam opined. He further pointed out that those arguing for secularism seldom interfere with the administration of places of Christian and Muslim worships.
Referring to the K P Sankaran Commission report, Kummanan demanded that temple administration should be entrusted with devotees. He also pointed out that about 25,000 acres of land, which once belonged to temples, was usurped over the years. “The government should hand over the temple lands under its possession,†he demanded.
‘Entrust Temple Admn to devotees’
Coming down heavily on so-called secularists, Kummanam Rajasekharan said religious discrimination has been practiced in the state in the name of secularism. Temple administration, he said, should be entrusted with devotees. He also demanded that the government should take measures to retain the temple land usurped over the years.
Equal Right to Perform Rituals, Poojas
The BJP state president said believers from all communities have the right to perform rituals and offer poojas at temples, including Sabarimala and Guruvayur. Referring to the famous ‘Palium Vilambarama’, Kummanam said the right to offer poojas does not come as a birthright, but it’s a right acquired by his actions.
Value-based Politics is need of the hour
There’s no difference between Congress-led United Democratic Front and CPM-led Left Democratic Front in Kerala. Referring to letter row involving Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, Kummanam said they are following politics of appeasement instead of value-based politics. Underscoring the need to bring back value-based politics in Kerala, the new state president said he would continue his fight for the marginalised and the environment. Kummanam demanded that there should ba an action plan for the protection of the Western Ghats.

‘Polarisation of Anti-BJP Parties On’
The new BJP state chief pointed out that there’s a polarisation of anti-BJP parties in the state. “The Congress and Left forces have come together to oppose BJP. Now, there are only two political forces in Kerala – BJP and anti-BJP or those who support Narendra Modi and those who oppose him,†he said
