via Mahadev published on November 13, 2005
The Karnataka government, according to a recent official announcement, is committed to take over the administration of the Sri Krishna mutt in Udupi.
A report in the New Indian Express has said that an official of the Law Ministry had made an attempt to thwart the take over by stating in a letter that the government needed to go for an appeal with regard to the stay granted by the courts for the take over of the mutt’s administration. However, the state deputy Chief Minister, Mr M P Prakash was quoted as explaining “The letter has been written without the knowledge of any body in the government. Law minister has also taken it seriously and action will be taken against the official. Out of the eight mutts in Udupi, six mutts have obtained stay from the High Court and two mutts have got stay from the Udupi civil court and the government was doing everything to get the stay vacated. There is no change in government stand whatsoever. We are committed for the taking over of the Krishna mutt administration.”
