Swami Vivekananda’s teachings had been gradually forgotten after Independence and a return to his values and objectives was necessary in order to cleanse the Indian society of the various ills that had afflicted it in the modern era, said Swami Suhitananda, assistant secretary of the Sri Ramakrishna Math and Sri Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math.

Addressing a gathering on Tuesday at the Sri Ramakrisna Math at Puranattukara near here on the occasion of the ongoing Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Annual Retreat, he said that Vivekananda, a multi-faceted personality, had realised that ending British rule in India was a prerequisite to end the misery of the Indian people, and enable Indians to realise their full potential on the world stage.

He said Mahatma Gandhi had fully understood the multi-faceted teachings of Vivekananda, and translated them into action. Swamis Prasantananda, Swaprabhananda, Golokananda, Brahmaswarupananda, Tatwamayananda, and Aseshananda will speak on the Bhagavat Gita on Wendesday, a release from the Math said.
