LeT suspect held for Bangalore terror attack

 BANGALORE: A suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba operative has been nabbed by police for his involvement in last week’s shootout at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) here in which one mathematics professor was killed and four persons injured.

Abdul Rahman, 35, was picked up by the special investigative team of the Bangalore police in Hyderabad on Sunday and brought to the city yesterday.

Joint city police commissioner Narayan Gowda said Rahman, a native of Nalgonda district of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, has been produced before the judicial magistrate here a 14-day police remand.

“He is suspected to be the main accused in the terror attack at the IISc campus last week,” Gowda told IANS.

The police claimed Rahman was linked with the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terror organisation. However, the police declined to confirm whether his face matched with the computer sketch of the suspect that was made on the basis of eyewitness accounts.

“Rahman is suspected to be the mastermind behind the attack in the IISc campus. We are interrogating him to find out how many persons were involved in the attack, which appears to have been well planned. We are yet to know his links with the LeT,” Gowda added.
