Sonia planning to choose G. Venkataswamy as next Indian President
New Delhi : The announcement by Congress MP G Venkataswamy that he will contest the Presidential election scheduled for 2007 went unnoticed by most of the media. The fact that Venkataswamy made the declaration after his meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi tells a lot of things. The incumbent president Dr Abdul Kalam will not be given a second term in Rashtrapathi Bhavan. But Dr Kalam is already on record that he wants to return to his teaching assignments in various universities in the country. With Congress all set to field Venkitaswami as the presidential candidate, chances of vice-president Bhairon Singh Shekawat making it to the Rashtrapathi Bhavan have become remote.
The Congress has made a calculated move by choosing Venkitaswami as the Presidential candidate. With an obliging and servile Venkitaswami occupying the Rashtrapathi Bhavan, ways will be cleared for the coronation of Antonio Maino (also known as Sonia Gandhi) as the Prime Minister of the country. Venkitaswami being a Hindu, none can question the logic of Antonio, a Roman Catholic, presiding over 7, Race Course Road. Though she is the de facto Prime Minister, Venkitaswami’s appointment as President will clear all hurdles which prevent her from becoming the de jure Prime Minister.
It is said that in 2004 when she staked her claim for the Prime Ministership of the country, Dr Kalam asked her to get familiar with the Law of Reciprocity of the Indian Citizenship Act. As per the Law of Reciprocity, an Italian-born person cannot become the Prime Minister of India since the Italian citizenship act forbids an Indian-born from becoming the prime minister of that country.
It was the Law of Reciprocity which stood in the way of Antonio Maino’s pearl white Ambassador car which was all set to rush to 7,Race Course Road. By anointing Venkataswami as the President, Antonio will succeed in scuttling the dreams of Kerala’s own AK Antony whose desire to be in the Rashtrapathi Bhavan is well known. Antonio is trying to hit as many birds as possible with a single stone!
