AIADMK and DMK ignore the demand of six lakh priests

Over six lakh village priests’ demand for a separate welfare board was not considered both by the DMK and ruling AIADMK despite their repeated appeals.

The VHP Tamil Nadu unit which now taken up the issue alleged that both the parties had ignored their demand.

The VHP State Vice President, S Vedantam has said that the “Hindu Protection” Conference held in Erode on Mar 18 had included the demand of the village priests in the resolution passed on various demands of the Hindus. He said that the resolutions were sent to various parties for inclusion in their manifestos but both the major parties did not do so.

The DMK during its rule had decided to set up a separate welfare board for village priests, but before the
decision was executed, it was voted out of power. But, the AIADMK, which came to power in 2001, “due to its political opposition to the DMK” did not implement the DMK’s decision, he added.
