BJP not viewing Left’s anti-Cong posture seriously

KOZHIKODE: Not willing to take on face value the statements made by Left parties against the Congress, BJP said both the parties had nothing in common except “anti-BJPism”.

They have nothing in common except opposing the BJP and the Left parties are blindly supporting the government, party national Vice President M Venkiah Naidu told a meet-the-press organised by the Calicut Press Club here.

Asked to react to CPI leader D Raja’s reported remarks that the Congress was not adhering to the CMP and that the UPA cannot take the Left support for granted, Naidu, who is here on an election tour, said “we don’t believe them. Their statements cannot be taken on face value.” Stating that the Left was opposing the Centre on almost every issue, he said the Communist parties also failed to meet their demand on major issues like cut in EPF interest rates.

I remember Sitaram Yechuri saying that his party will not only bark but if necessary will also bite. But going by the happenings, we see the Communists are ending up only with sound bites and not real bites, Naidu said.

On the other hand, the Congress was only doing what it wanted at the end of the day, he said, adding in Kerala both the Congress and CPI (M) were “hobnobbing” with communal forces to win the elections.

Their campaign in Kerala and West Bengal do not carry conviction. Neither AICC President, Sonia Gandhi nor Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh had dared to attack the CPI (M) during their poll campaign here, he said.
