Training for Temple Pujaris
via G.Vijayalakshmi published on June 1, 2006
Chennai: The RSS and VHP have always been against caste distinctions among Hindus. VHP has been regularly training all Hindus without discrimination whatsoever for the office of ‘temple poojari’.
This has been going on for many years now in almost all the states in India.
Till date, about 3000 pujaris have been trained and they are officiating as priests in several village temples.Currently a training camp for pujaris is going on in Vellore. They may find jobs now in the cities also. There is also a lady past middle-age who is working as a pujari in a Bhagavathy temple at Perambur, Chennai.
It is the aptitude of a person and his/her earnestnes and willingness to learn the mantras and observe the rituals that matters. The Karunanidhi Govt. had engaged a few non-brahmin ‘priests’ some years ago, without the necessary training.. The result was that they did not find favour with the general public because they were not able to chant the mantras.
The next training session is scheduled to begin after a month at Vellore
