BJP welcomes court ruling on ending Haj subsidy
New Delhi, Aug 26: BJP today welcomed an Allahabad High Court order not to subsidise haj saying Islam too does not allow state funding of the annual Muslim pilgrimage.
BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra maintained that none of the Islamic countries offer subsidy on Haj.
“Even a Pakistani court has ruled that there should be no government subsidy on the pilgrimage,” he said.
His comments came in the wake of the Allahabad High Court restraining central and the state governments from providing funds for pilgrimages.
“We welcome the court ruling. There is no subsidy on Hindu pilgrimage to Mansarovar or on holy Sikh visits to Gurdwaras in Pakistan. Similarly, there should be no subsidy on Haj,” Malhotra said.
