Co Founder of VHP passed away

Shastri who was currently the president of Gujarat unit of VHP, was born in Mangrol village of Junagadh district in Gujarat in 1905. In 1936 he came to Ahmedabad and this city became his home. He joined Gujarat Vidyasabha in 1937 as a researcher and remained a researcher all through his life.

He was a noted grammarian known for his scholarly knowledge of Sanskrit. At the age of 21 he translated the treatise of Vallabhacharya and he had two regular columns ‘Jagat nu Rajkaran’ and ‘Saudagar ni Kitab’ in the popular weekly Prajabandhu in Gujarathi.

He had published 240 books while there are 18 unpublished books. He had written about 1500 research articles. He had about a score of degrees like Vidyasagar, Bhashabhaskar, Bharatmartand and Vidyavachspati. Above all    he was awarded Padmshree in 1976.

On receiving news of his demise, leaders and workers associated with the VHP and other Hindu organisations gathered at his residence.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma and other leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressed their grief over Shastri’s demise.

VHP leaders including Ashok Singhal, Pravin Togadiya and Acharya Giriraj Kishore also expressed their grief over the death of the veteran.
