New constitution should be evolved: Sudarsan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: : A new constitution “suited to the country’s ethos” should be evolved with emphasis on the concept of decentralization propagated by Gandhiji, RSS chief K S Sudarsan said.

Inaugurating the concluding session of the two-day seminar on “cultural nationalism” held as part of Guruji Golwalkar birth centenary celebrations, he said it is time to amend the present constitution.

“We have to restructure the whole thing. What should be the ideals for a new constitution and how it can be applied are matters to be debated further,” he said.

Sudarsan said the concept of self-reliant villages should be promoted. The state was usurping the powers of families and villages, the primary units of society. Politicians, who were always giving false promises, have lost all credibility.

Since 1989, the country had been witnessing elections every year whether it was at the Centre or in the states. Political parties had no time to engage in issues concerning people as they were always indulging in electoral politics.

Parties needed money to contest elections for which they approached capitalists who later took advantage for the favour given, he said adding “The way out of this situation is to arouse public opinion.” He said India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru led the country to the Western developmental path negating the path of decentralization proposed by Gandhiji
