KOLLAM: Mata Amritanandamayi has offered help to save the farmers from committing suicide over a lot of problems.

Delivering the message on the occasion of her 53rd birthday celebrations at Amritapuri Asram at Vallikkavu near Karunagapally, Mata said it was painful to see the rapid increase in the suicide rate among the farmers.

She said that people unable to withstand pressures lose hope and seek refuge in suicide. “Obstacles are a normal part of life. Nobody should breakdown before them”, she said.

“For some people it is difficult to even procure one meal a day. Others have unbearable emotional problems. When they become weak, people around them do not come forward to help them”, she observed.

Mata said counselling facilities should be made available in all the districts to help the people and at least 10 Sevaks could be appointed in each district.

“Just by providing money, we cannot solve the problem. Such people might continue to avail themselves of loans from other places”, she said.

She sought the cooperation of the government and society to help the farmers, as the Math was ready for any kind of help.

“Amma’s compassionate children should be ready to render service towards this cause”, Mata exhorted the thousands of devotees assembled at the Ashram for the birthday celebrations.

At 9 a.m, Swami Amrita Swaroopananda Puri, the head disciple of Mata, conducted the pada puja. The keys of 341 houses constructed for the tsunami victims, in the fourth and final phase of rehabilitation project of the Math, was distributed at the function.
