Clemency or Infamy?

Something extraordinary happened within the past week. Smt Sonia Gandhi appealed to President Abdul Kalam to re-impose the ban on MP workers attending RSS Shakhas. Within a few days, her hand picked Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad appealed for clemency for the convicted terrorist Mahommed Afzal Guru, who led the terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament in December 2001. Not only Sri Azad, but politicians of all stripes in J&K joined in the chorus calling for clemency

What was the outcome of the attack? Ten security personnel, including the lady constable Kamlesh Kumari lost their lives protecting the politicians. Now the politicians of Sonia Gandhi’s party are clamoring for the life of the terrorist who killed their protectors! This goes beyond cowardice to shamelessness.

If this continues it is only a matter of time before security personnel will lose all trust in their so-called leaders. The secularist politicians seem to think that the security forces exist to protect them and not the country. And if secularists are willing to protect terrorists who kill brave men and women who protect the nation and its symbols, these leaders, beginning with Sonia Gandhi and her henchmen should engage these honorable men to protect them, rather than endanger our security personnel.

Whatever the President decides to do, the day when Sonia Gandhi favorite Ghulam Nabi Azad appealed for clemency is a day that will live in infamy. It will be another black feather in the secularist hat— along with the Shah Bano capitulation and the Imrana disgrace.
