Vajpayee hails BJP’s civic poll show in Uttar Pradesh
New Delhi, Nov 8: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who strongly backs BJP chief Rajnath Singh and campaigned in the civic elections in Uttar Pradesh, today hailed the party’s peformance in the polls.
In a statement, he thanked party workers for their role in the civic elections in Uttar Pradesh, the home state of the party chief, whom he had praised for his leadership skills two months ago.
The former Prime Minister said party workers faced civic elections boldly and worked hard in the face of “odd circumstances”.
He told them to work actively and unitedly to win public confidence as much as possible in the state.
Vajpayee had last month addressed a public meeting in Lucknow as part of the BJP’s civic poll campaign there.
The BJP has won eight of the 12 mayoral seats in Uttar Pradesh, where Singh’s prestige is at stake in state assembly elections due next year.
Vajpayee yesterday telephoned the BJP president and congratulated him on the party’s performance in the civic vote.
