Parliament attack : Martyrs’ families return medals
NEW DELHI: Even as Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday offered floral tributes to the portraits of the martyrs at Parliament House, families of the eight Parliament attack victims return their medals to President.
The families of the security personnel killed in the attack on Parliament five years ago, who had expressed their disgust over the issue of the delay in hanging of Mohammed Afzal Guru, reached Rashtrapati Bhawan and returned the ‘Keerti Chakras’, which the government had honoured the dead with.
They also expressed their anger over the fact that all the promises made to them by the government of providing the victims’ families with land, petrol pump and their compensations, have not been met.
Clarifying their stand, they told the President that once the government takes a decision on the issue of Afzal Guru, they would accept the gallantry awards awarded to them.
