380 tribals reconverted to Hinduism
Rourkela : As many as 380 tribals were today reconverted to Hinduism from Christianity at a function held at Birida under Brahmanitarang police station in Orissa’s Sundargarh district, VHP sources said.
The tribals, who included 185 women, belonged to 10 villages spread over Lathikata and Gurundia blocks.
All the members came to the local high school ground in a “kalas” procession wearing new clothes where an “atma sudhi yagna” was performed.
They were also given new clothes and lockets bearing images of Hindu gods and goddesses.
Terming the occasion as “home coming” for the tribals, state secretary of VHP Gadadhar Sahoo said “They are all Hindus. During last three to five years they had embraced Christianity.” The villages are Pandiripathara, Gailo, Potua, Badadalki, Pankadihi, Ratkipidi, Birida, Kadalikucha, Bhulikucha and Ranki.
