BJP strongly condemned Assam killings

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party President Sh. Rajnath Singh strongly condemned the cowardly killing of non Assamese by ULFA in which 49 people from Bihar and Bengal lost their lives in last two days. He said that the Centre has once again showed their inept handling of the country’s internal security. This unfortunate event is a direct result of the Congress party’s and government’s soft stand on terror and separatists.

Sh. Rajnath Singh said that it is ironical when the senior officials of Govt. of India visited Assam and gave a pat to the security arrangements in the State for holding the national games in February, 2007, on the following two days, this gruesome killings took place in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts. It is evident now that the Congress Govt. at Centre had lost all the advantages gained during NDA regime over ULFA terror.

Sh. Rajnath Singh charged the Congress for taking the help of ULFA in elections and because of it they are unable to deal with the banned outfit firmly. The Congress government at the Centre and State are responsible for the current state of affairs in Assam as they have always followed the policy of vote bank even at the cost of national interests. As a result the infiltration from Bangladesh still continues and militant training camps in Bangladesh are being used by outfits such as ULFA. BJP strongly condemns any political understanding, even remotely with the killers of innocent workers. Mr. Rajnath Singh reminded that during NDA regime in December, 2003, the Indian Army in coordination with the Mianmar’s army and Bhutan’s army had destroyed, hunted, flushed out the ULFA separatists and restored peace in the North-Eastern Region. This problem should be dealt with this firmness.

The killing of Bihari and Bengali workers engaged in labour work is a matter of grave concern. Indecisiveness in tackling ULFA terror might unleash forces which will be dangerous to inter-state cohesion and national unity.

Sh. Rajnath Singh has asked the Centre government to take a re-look at the security arrangements in Assam and ensure the safety and security of the Bihari laborers and their families working in Assam.

Sh. Rajnath Singh, who is right now in Uttaranchal has expressed his heart felt sympathies to the families of victims, who have lost their bread earners. The Central Government should give adequate compensation to the bereaved families. Immediately after returning to Delhi, he himself will go to Assam on 9th January, 2007 to take stock of the situation.
