BJP warns Govt against withdrawing forces from Siachen

The Bharatiya Janata Party has warned the UPA Government against any move to withdraw Indian forces from the Siachen glacier. BJP national president Rajnath Singh said that the Government should not initiate any move without considering the strategic objections from the Army.

Siachen was key to the integration of Kashmir Valley with India, and there should not be any move to withdraw forces from there without proper military authentication and ground control when the Indian Army was in control there, he said while talking to reporters here on Monday. The BJP was determined not to allow the UPA Government to play with the unity and integrity of the country, he said. The nation was passing through a ‘bad patch’ since the UPA Government came to office, Singh said.

Accusing the UPA Government of lacking the political will to contain terrorism, he said there was documentary proof of the important role of the ISI in terrorist activities in India. The issue of terrorism should also be taken up with Bangladesh which hosted terrorist training camps , he said. India should ask the United Nations to put ISI on international watch by taking the global community into confidence, Rajnath Singh said.

“To test the honesty” President Pervez Musharraf, who had reached an accord with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to counter terrorism, India should propose a joint military campaign with Pakistan, the BJP leader said.
