Shiv Sena opposes British lawmakers’ mercy plea for Mohammad Afzal
New Delhi, Jan 31 : Scores of activists of Shiv Sena protested against British lawmakers’ recent demand for mercy for Mohammad Afzal Guru, awarded death sentence for attack on Parliament in 2001, here on wenesday
The activists, holding banners and placards, shouted slogans against R. Gondsif and J.Corbin for pleading the Supreme Court, which has sentenced Afzal for his role in the conspiracy to attack the Parliament complex, on humanitarian grounds.
“Mohammad Afzal, who attacked our country’s Parliament, was ordered to be hanged by our top court. Despite that they (British lawmakers) are demanding mercy for him. We want to tell them that they have no right to meddle in the affairs of our country. It is the Indian government and the Constitution of India which will decide on this issue, not Britishers,” said Jai Bhagwan Goel, leader of Shiv Sena.
The activists also burnt an effigy of British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
