BJP-Akali Set To Rule In Punjab; BJP Ahead In Uttarakhand

Assembly poll results in Punjab and Uttarakhand are indicative of beginning of the end for the Congress-led government at the Centre : BJP


NEW DELHI : As per the latest available trends, the ruling Congress faced a severe blow in the Assembly elections in Punjab and Uttarakhand.SAD-BJP combine in Punjab and BJP alone in Uttarkhand is set to form governments .


The SAD-BJP combine in Punjab is ahead in over 70 of the 116 seats for which polling was held and counting of votes was taken up today. The Congress is ahead in over 35 seats. The Assembly has strength of 117 seats.


In the hill state of Uttarakhand, opposition BJP surged ahead in over 30 of the 69 seats where elections were held. Congress was ahead in 14 constituencies, while others were leading in 11. Uttarakhand has 70-member Assembly.


Parkash Singh Badal, who has already won from Lambi constituency is set to become the next chief minister in Punjab.
