This has reference to the news item ‘No govt record on Netaji’s role’

The Delhi journalist,Anuj Dhar, had opened a can of worms on this subject in his incisive “Back from Dead:Inside the Subhas Bose Mystery”.In an interview to the web based daily,’DNA’,on 12 Nov 2005,the author stated:

“Our govt. has never been interested in probing the matter fairly. They concealed information, destroyed crucial evidence and hampered efforts to explore the Taiwanese and Russian angles. How can you trust those who have obstructed justice? It’s a myth to say that the Indian govt. formed commission after commission. There is irrefutable evidence to prove that the Govt. of India is a most unreliable party in the Netaji mystery”.

In direct contrast to our govt’s attitude, Lord Clement Attlee was more forthcoming on the role of Netaji and the INA in India’s Independence. The renowned historian Dr. R.C. Majumdar,in his ‘History of the Freedom Movement’,recounts an interesting converstaion between the then governor of West Bengal,Mr.P.B.Chakravarti,and Clement Attlee,at the Raj Bhavan,Kolkata in reponse to a query from the governor, Attlee reportedly stated that there were several reasons for Britain granting Independence to India. The most important of which ‘were the activities of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose which weakened the very foundation of the attachment of the Indian land and naval forces to the British Government’. (VOL 3-pp 610)

In this light, the honesty of the various Congress govts, at the centre in getting to the bottom of the ‘Netaji Mystery’, is suspect.
