Our principles can’t be questioned: BJP
Chennai, May 17:
‘No one has the locus standi to doubt or certify BJP’s feeling of patriotism’, BJP State president L Ganesan said today.
The party leader was reacting to the remarks made by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi yesterday that parties opposing Sethusamudaram Canal Project (SSCP) were anti-nationals.
Speaking to reporters here, Ganesan said that BJP was not against the implementation of the project, but only the alignment of the canal demolishing Ram Sethu. ‘The reason for Karunanidhi adamantly refusing to accept the existence of the bridge is because of his rationalist principles,’ he said.
Stating that Union Shipping Minister T R Baalu deliberately misled Parliament on Sethu, Ganesan said that despite knowing well there was evidence proving the existence of Ramar Bridge, the Union Minister uttered lies in the Lok Sabha. He also said that if BJP comes to power at the Centre again then an Inquiry Commission on the SSCP would be set up to probe the irregularities done by the Ministry.
Denying that the NEERI report on the current alignment was not submitted during the BJP regime, State president reasoned out for asking white paper on this issue. He said, ‘we are ready to correct ourselves, if BJP’s Union Minister has signed the project report for implementation.’
Meanwhile, he said the party’s executive committee would meet at Mannarkudi tomorrow. Resolutions on Ramar Bridge, press freedom, inter-linking of rivers, minority reservation and sex education were likely to be passed
