Brave women fight back in J & K

via HK Correspondent published on August 22, 2007

JAMMU : Girls in Jammu and Kashmir have taken up a new challenge. From the days of staying hidden in their homes with household chores, they have come out now and are picking up guns to protect themselves and their family for militancy.

The Village Defense Committee are trying their women to fight militants when the men are not in town. Hindu women in J&K ate often taken away by the militants to satisfy their sexual fantasies and some are even inducted into militancy.

27 women from this border village of Naushera have been trained to use AK-47’s and other heavy duty weapons (courtesy NDTV). The Indian Army has been instrumental in setting up these units and train the people to fight. These units will help the army in fighting the militant units operating within the cover of the villages. It will also help put a check on the recruitment of militants in the villages.

This paves way for new way to fight militants who use women as a defence against the army and also liberates the women who have been so far been restricted and not given a say in any matter in this region.
