Declare Ram Setu as national heritage monument: RSS
Dharwad:Reiterating its opposition to demolition of Ram Setu for the Sethusamudram project, the RSS today demanded that the Government declare it as a national heritage monument.
The two-day RSS Executive meeting that concluded here in a resolution urged the UPA Government not to go ahead with the project which the majority of Hindus opposed.
“The obstinancy of the government in still going ahead with it makes the Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal (RSS executive) feel that its only objective is to destroy the Ram Setu,” the resolution said.
Briefing on the deliberations, RSS Joint Secretary Madandas Devi told reporters here that the meeting called upon people in general and ‘swayamsevaks’ in particular to continue to uphold the age-old cultural and spiritual integrity of the nation and stand steadfast with conviction and valour until the final victory was achieved in this struggle.
By another resolution, it demanded that reservation be extended only to Scheduled Caste Hindus and not to converted SCs, STs and economically backward Muslims.
It also said that the recommendations of the National Commission for Religious and Linguistic Minorities (NCRLM) should not be implemented.
VHP President Ashok Singhal warned that the organisation would launch an agitation on the lines of Ram Mandir stir to press for declaring Ram Setu a national heritage monument.
The meet was attended by top leaders of RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal.
