IISH’s Samskruti Ratna Award to Dr R.V.Ramani

Dr. R.V. Ramani, born in 24th July, 1947 in Coimbatore got the inspiration from his great father, Dr. A. Ramanathan. Dr. Ramani with his wife, Dr. Radha Ramani established a memorial clinic after his late father aiming at providing health care service to the needy. Dr.Ramani blessed, motivated and guided by Sri. Sankaracharyas of Kanchi Matom, established Sri. Kanchi Kamakoti Medical Center in 1977 and from then onwards provided their time, resources and expertise totally free for this movement of Sankara Medical Centre and Eye Clinic established in Coimbatore, Guntur, Ksishnan Koil, Bangalore , Shimoga and in Anand.[A Mission For Vision-Sankara Eye Foundation]

Dr. Ramani and his wife has devoted every day in their life for bringing light to the blind, through over 5000 corneal transplants for blind children, 4175 weekly medical camps covering 28 million rural population and 3,50,000 free eye surgeries at the rate of 250-300 per day. Dr. Ramani has also extended the community eye care services to all over India and outside India in Cambodia, Nigeria, Nepal and Seychelles under the Vandematharam- Bharth Vision program. Dr. Ramani has launched the program of building a community eye care hospital in every state of India with the ultimate goal of achieving Vision 20/20 status for the country by the year 2020. Dr. Ramani has received many laurels and awards for his meritorious services.

We, the trust members and mission oriented workers of Indian Institute of Scientific Heritage would like to submit our prayer to the almighty for blessing Dr. Ramani and Dr. Radha Ramani for healthy long life for serving the humanity. We will hand over the Samskruthi Rathna Award for their mission and vision on 25th December,2007 at 2.00 PM in a public function at Ernakulam Town Hall by Dr. Prem Nair MD (Former Professor of Medicine, University of California) Medical Director Amritha Institute of Medical Science, Kochi.
