Gujarati community in Kochi welcomes Modi’s win
KOCHI: The spectacular victory of the saffron party in Gujarat has made the local Gujarati population welcome the poll results with enthusiasm.
Even though the result was an expected one, the sweeping victory of the BJP was something special, they said.
“We are happy that the people have chosen Modi again. It was evident from the reports in Gujarati newspapers that the people will vote for Modi. He has done a lot for the development of the state ,†said Ramesh Jetehdai, president of the Cochin Gujarati Mahajan at Mattanchery.
To a question whether the victory was the result of the `Modi charisma’, he said: “May be, it’s. The people of Gujarat want development and thus they went for Modi.â€
The development agenda of Narendra Modi was the reason for the impressive victory, said Bharat N.Khona of Indian Chamber of Commerce. He was the president of the Mattanchery BJP unit.
“We are happy. It was quite an expected victory. Even though there was some reports about the infighting, that didn’t affect the election in any way. The development agenda of the BJP and Modi are the reasons for the victory,†Bharat Khona said.
Even those Gujaratis who have been away from their homeland are happy with the spectacular show of Modi, said a Gujarati businessman in Kochi on condition of anonymity. “We are not concerned about anybody’s victory.
We are not part of the voters’ list in Gujarat. But still we think this is a victory for the development projects of Modi,†he said.
