Prestigous Vivekananda Sewa Samman to M.A.Krishnan, Founder of Balagokulam

Kolkata:Shri M.A. Krishnan, founder of the internationally fame organisation Balgokulam, has been selected for this year’s Vivekananda Sewa Samman. The Samman, which consists of a citation and cheque of Rs 51,000, will be presented at a function to be held at Mahajati Sadan Annexie Hall, Kolkata on February 10 by the former Union HRD Minister Dr Murli Manohar Joshi.

Born at Kollam district of Kerala in 1928, Shri Krishnan received the highest degree in Sanskrit literature, Mahopadhyaya, from Maharaja Sanskrit College, Thiruvananthapuram and later started teaching. But he left the job to propagate the nationalist views and became full timer worker of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1954. Later, in 1964 he became the chief editor of Kesari.

He founded the Balgokulam in 1974 to inculcate the feeling of nationalism, patriotism and good samskars among children. The Balgokulam has today more than 1,500 branches all over the world. Shree Burrabazar Kumarsabha Pustakalaya founded the Samman in 1987 to honour those who are working according to the ideals of Swami Vivekananda. In this series, it is the 22nd Samman. Last year, this award had been presented to Dr Nityananda of Uttarakhand.
