RSS joins cyber race, sets up ‘software shakhas’

NEW DELHI, Feb. 22: Unwilling to be left behind in the cyber space race, the RSS has embarked on a plan to revamp its existing IT infrastructure to reach out to a large, young net-savvy population with its ideological messages and action programmes.

The RSS national executive member, Mr Ram Madhav, said in the next two months the organisation would upgrade its websites with state-of-the-art audio and video software. With about 25 to 30 per cent of the RSS pracharaks being engineers, PhDs and post graduates, modernisation of the existing software and hardware became a necessity, he said. “The ‘Vijaydashami’ address of RSS chief, Mr K S Sudarshan, himself a communication engineer from Jabalpur, has already been telecast live through Internet across the globe” Mr Madav, an electrical engineer and a former spokesman of the RSS, said.

Keen to shed its image of an organisation seemingly rooted in ancient tradition, sans modernity, the RSS has also gone ahead with making its shakhas IT friendly. Mr Madav said the RSS had more than 30 ‘software shakhas’ in Bangalore, meant exclusively for students from well known IT companies of the city. The RSS also boasts of ‘software shakhas’ in Hyderabad (5), Pune (2) and Gurgaon (1). Another such shakha was recently launched in Chennai.

To keep its IT shakhas functioning and in working condition, the RSS is now on the lookout for IT experts. A talent haunt has been launched for specialised hands in the field of IT, engineering and also medical and other fields purportedly to usher in “new ideas” in keeping with the times.

The RSS leader claimed that its work on setting up “campus and hostel shakhas” was also yielding “good results”. In Thrivananthapuram, the RSS has about 30 to 35 campus shakhas run by student paracharaks, Mr Madhav said, adding that once IT experts enter the shakhas it was bound to generate “happy ideas” within the RSS and its affiliated organisations.
