Sangh for paying tribute to 1857 martyrs in Parliament

New Delhi: To pay tribute to the martyrs of the 1857 Uprising, the Sangh Parivar has written to the Lok Sabha Speaker seeking that an Asthi Kalash of the 1857 martyrs be placed in the Central Hall of Parliament on May 10. The day marks the year-long commemoration of the 150 years of the First War of Independence. Sanskar Bharati, the cultural arm of the Sangh Parivar has given a call for observing a two-minute silence on May 10 at 6.57 pm.

At a function organised by the Delhi BJP on Tuesday at the Parade Ground opposite the historic Red Fort, Asthi Kalash was distributed to the representatives of party’s State units. Earlier in the day, the party worker organised a motorcycle rally from the national office on Ashoka Road to the Parade Ground in which 1857 motorcycles participated.  
 
Among those present at the function were Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha L K Advani, BJP’s national president Rajnath Singh, spokesperson Prakash Javdekar, Vijay Goel, Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra, BJP leader Sushma Swaraj and Delhi State BJP president Harshvardhan. Speaking on the occasion Advani said that the party would give the country an honest and performing administration whenever it comes to power.  
 
“We promise the country to give an honest and performing administration whenever will be able to make government. This is my tribute to martyrs of the first independent struggle on the occasion of 150th ceremony,” he said. Swaraj, who is also the coordinator of Sanskar Bharati said the soil from 299 birth places of martyrs were collected at Bithur in Kanpur.
