Hyderabad, June 8: The state has announced total fee reimbursement for students who will join 16 different professional courses in various colleges from this year. The offer is on a par with SC and ST candidates.  Currently, the facility was available only for those Muslim students who join engineering and medical courses. The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, on Sunday announced this following requests by Muslim leaders. The government will pay the fees of these students directly to the college management at the time of admission.

Speaking at the Haj House here, he directed officials to issue necessary orders. He said his government would put in all efforts to secure four per cent reservation for Muslims that has been pending with the High Court. “At the time of counselling for admission of minority students to professional colleges, letters addressed to the management of the institutions should be given to them stating that the state would pay the fee,” he added. He said his government will improve the condition of minorities.

“When I assumed office, I was shocked to learn that the total amount of scholarships was just Rs 4 crore. This was raised to Rs 10 crore in the second year and gradually to Rs 90 crore. This year a sum of Rs 127 crore has been provided for the minority students,” he said. “We want every minority boy and girl to be educated,” he added.

In accordance to the fee structure, Muslim students with an annual family inco-me of less than Rs 1 lakh would get fee re-imbursement of Rs 27,500 for engineering, Rs 27,500 for pharmacy, Rs 24,300 for MBA/MCA, Rs 11,200 for B.Ed, Rs 800 for law, Rs 50,000 for M.Tech, Rs 95,000 for M.Pharma, Rs 55,000 for MBBS and Rs 40,000 for dental courses.
