Himachal to provide free CFLs to power consumers

HIMACHAL
PRADESH government has decided to provide free CFL bulbs to almost 16
lakh domestic consumers free of cost by spending Rs. 80 crore under
Atal Bijli Bachat Yojna.

Announcing the decision during a public meeting at Talwar in Thural
Assembly constituency of Kangra district on Sunday (June 29), Himachal
chief minister Dr Prem Kumar Dhumal said that this will help in
reduction of electricity bill of consumers by more than 50 per cent. He
added that it was an endeavour of the state government to save
electricity besides, providing quality power supply to consumers.

In another bonanza for the farmers, the government has also decided
to provide free soil testing facilities to 12 lakh agriculturists of
the state. One lakh farmers will be provided with this facility during
the current financial year.

Making the announcement, Dhumal urged the farmers to adopt
floriculture, cultivation of herbs and off-season vegetables as it
could bring about prosperity to the farmers.

The chief minister said that ITI at Thural will be upgraded to
polytechnic and new courses in civil and motor mechanic trades started
from this academic session with a view to develop professional skills
amongst local youth.

He said that infrastructure of the ITI would also be strengthened by
spending Rs 1.5 crore and girls hostel to accommodate 30 girls would
also be constructed.

Earlier, the chief minister laid the foundation stone of three
ambitious projects to be completed at a cost of about Rs 80 crore.

pleaded for mercy killing successfully underwent a knee replacement surgery which may help her to get back on her feet.

Thanks
to the Himachal Pradesh government which bore the entire expenses,
Seema Sood, a resident of Palampur, underwent the surgery at Fortis
hospital in Mohali on June 25.

He
had directed that Seema be provided quality treatment at the state
government’s expense after learning of her plight from his party
colleague Shanta Kumar.
